BRIEF INTRODUCTION

HISTORY

Located in Shenyang (capital city of Liaoning Province), China Medical University (CMU) is one of the top ten medical schools in China. CMU is the first medical school established by the Chinese Communist Party. Its precursor was the Military Medical School and Health School of Chinese Worker’s and Peasants’ Red Army founded 70 years ago. Proposed by Mao Zedong (known as Chairman Mao), the school was named as China Medical University in Yan’an in 1940. In 1948, CMU was moved to Shenyang, where it later merged two local medical schools in Shenyang, former National Shenyang Medical University and former private Liaoning Medical College. The former National Shenyang Medical University was originally established by Japanese South Manchuria Railway Company in 1911, while the former Liaoning Medical College originated from Mukden Shi Hospital that had been established by Scottish missionary (Church of Scotland) in 1882.

EDUCATION

Since its establishment, CMU has educated over 52,000 senior medical personnel. Its graduates are all over China and some other countries and regions of the world. Many of the graduates have become famous medical experts and leaders of the national health administration and medical education. CMU now has 29 colleges, 130 departments, 49disciplines and specialties offering doctoral degree, 61 disciplines and specialties offering master’s degree, 11 specialties for undergraduates, 10 higher technical specialties and one affiliated health school. CMU also has a center for Japanese language training, a center for English language training and a center for rural doctor training under the Chinese Ministry of Health. The total number of registered students is now 17,571.

TEACHING STAFFS

The number of CMU staff is now7630, and 80% of them are professionals with various specialties. Among them, there is one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 448 professors, 676 associate professors, 256 supervisors for doctoral degree and 757 supervisors for masters, 2 members of the Discipline Evaluation Group of Academic Degree Committee of the State Council, and 15 chairman or vice chairman members of national academic societies. Furthermore, of the younger staff of CMU, 17 have been granted National Outstanding Youth Funds or other training funds; 86 are selected for the Provincial Training Plan for Outstanding Personnel of Higher Education; 38 are nominated as Provincial Young Discipline Leaders or Distinguished Backbone Young Teachers.

TEACHING & RESEARCH FACILITIES

CMU occupies a total land area of 3,290,000 square meters, and the building area is 743,000 square meters. CMU has one national key disciplines, 4 key laboratories of the Ministry of Health, one national clinical study base for drug development, one national laboratory for research in traditional Chinese Medicine, 3 post- doctoral mobile stations, 12 provincial research and treatment centers, 3 municipal research centers, 22 university educational or research institutes or centers, 8 school or college central laboratories, 15 independent research laboratories and 3 high- tech enterprises. CMU also has 4 affiliated general hospitals and 2 specialized hospitals with a total of 4,837 beds. The library has a collection of more than 850,000 volumes. It is the central library of the National Medical Literature Resources Sharing Network of the Ministry of Health in the Northeast of China. It is also the northeastern hub of the Chinese Medical Information Network and a national medical science and technology referee unit for checking novelty of plagiarism. The Laboratory Animal Center of the CMU breeds 23 species and strains of experimental animals for teaching and research. It is also the provincial center of laboratory animals and the provincial center for quality monitoring of experimental animals. In the near future, CMU will start building a new campus to further improve our capacity for medical education, research and international exchange. The new campus will reflect our philosophy of life, “humanism”. It should be modern, beautiful, multifunctional, and environmentally friendly.

INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE

CMU has established good exchange and cooperative relations with 52 institutions in Japan, US, UK France, Russia, Korea, Canada and other countries or regions. So far, 217 internationally famous experts have been given honorary titles by CMU, and our staffs have been sent abroad for research and advanced training 3,702 times. Currently, 51 international cooperative projects are in operation at CMU.

CURRICULUM AND FACULTIES

This is a very important today for any medical student and any medical college taking student from India. Student went in large numbers to European countries like Russia Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Armenia to study medicine. They could not do well in their Screening Test Exam conducted by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the students failed in mass. This is because the students had to study in a different system and the MCI had conducted the exam in the pattern based on the syllabus and system of India.

To solve this problem CMU has adapted MCI curriculum in collaboration with International Curruculum to keep its standards high. This is of greatest advantage to Indian students. All other universities claim to do so…but as a parent you need to check the following….

Duration

1. Academic year: From September 1 to July 30 of second year is one academic year.
2. Educational system: Bachelor’s Degree: Five years;
3. Seven years program of clinical medicine(for Master’s Degree);
4. Master’s Degree: Three years;
5. Doctor’s Degree: Three years;
6. Scholar: One year or two years;
Duration time of application:
From March 1 to June 30 each year.

Hostel & Saftey

There are separate facilities for Boys and girls. Well appointed hostels with fully furnished, air conditioned rooms made for international students. Rooms are furnished with TV, Telephone, Refrigerator, Washing Machine, Radiators, Air condition and other amenities.

The hostels are given good protection by security agencies and police booths in the University.

Students with 10+2 are eligible for the MBBS Program.
